Writing a story, sharing it, and not worrying about income is what being a writer is all about.

Starlight Pages teaches writers how to tell a great story and market it to the world.

If there’s a short story you’d like to share right now, head over to the Submission’s page.

Who knows? Your story may get published on Starlight Pages for all visitors to see!

New blog posts are every other Wednesday!

For now, here are some posts I’m sure you’ll enjoy!

Who Am I?

I am an author, editor, and blogger in my 20s currently living in the East Coast of the United States with my reckless princess of a bearded dragon, Onyx.

I’m a fiction bookworm with a huge interest in biology and science. As a result, I ask a lot of questions about pretty much everything and don’t rest until I find the answers.

I am also a long-time multi-stan k-pop fan (before the Korean Wave hit the U.S., thank you), so you score extra fun points if you can guess my ultimate faves.

I studied Creative Writing for Entertainment (novel, film, television, comics, video games, transmedia, etc.) at Full Sail University, where I was awarded Salutatorian.

But…

I still consider myself a self-taught writer.

I’ve written fiction ever since I was a bean, learned the hard way about what to do and what not to do in storytelling and writing mechanics, and have learned what it means to write a good story by reading and observing.

All on my own.

Now I’m able to take what I’ve learned and pass it on to others since I’ve been in their shoes and continue to learn even now.

When I formally studied writing, I didn’t change my style or compromise to fit the academic structure.

I was quite rebellious, come to think of it, but I consistently got high marks. Only when I tried to change myself did I score exceptionally low.

It was especially hard, though, because ‘Go-With What Sounds Good’ Me couldn’t handle the restrictions formal education called for.

But of course, school wasn’t all bad.

I learned a lot about writing and the industry in multiple mediums. It has helped me improve what I already knew, as well as practice things I didn’t.

If university taught me anything about being a writer, it’s about staying true to your own writer’s voice, and trust in yourself and your ideas.

You can learn to follow ‘rules’ and make it work for you, but you can’t pretend to be something you’re not.

Is Becoming an Author as Hard as They Say?

Eh…yes and no.

There are writers who find it easy to conceptualize stories, but pull their hair out to actually write it (this is me)…

There are those who have no issue writing a story, but get frustrated when it comes to publishing or marketing…

There are aspiring writers who get intimidated at the very thought of sharing their stories with the world and never go through with writing or publishing…

And of course, every combination in-between.

I didn’t even BEGIN to hit the surface!

The point is, every writer is different, and every writer will have their own obstacles depending on their goals and situation.

I’ve personally gone through a lot of hardships and trial and error learning how to write, tell a story, and get it published.

It was a road with a lot of regrets I can never erase, and I don’t want others to go through what I did.

The main goal of Starlight Pages is to help you learn:

    • How to tell a story without restriction
    • How to get that story out to the world without feeling overwhelmed

The thing you have to remember is: practice makes perfect, you learn by observing and doing, and if there’s a story you want to read but can’t find, WRITE IT.

Chances are, there are others who want to read that kind of story, too, and they’ll be the first ones to support your writing journey!

Why is there a lizard on your Featured Images?

That lizard represents my bearded dragon, Onyx.

She is a young juvenile with a long history of giving me heart attacks and causing wrinkles and gray hairs to appear sooner than I’m sure they originally would have.

But she has helped to motivate and encourage me to launch this blog.

She represents what Starlight Pages hopes to instill in others:

    • Taking the reigns and doing your own thing without anyone’s permission
    • Throwing yourself into whatever passion that drives you, and most of all,
    • Never giving up no matter how many times you’ve fallen

Onyx is Starlight Page’s honorary representative, so it is only right that she’s featured as such.
